Description
This Colt Single Action Army revolver, serial number 286228, is a historically significant example shipped to the Territory of Arizona in 1906, predating Arizona’s statehood. According to the included factory letter, it was part of a six-gun shipment sent to Smith’s Sporting Goods in Tucson on November 23, 1906.
Chambered in .45 Colt with a 5 ½-inch barrel, this revolver was originally finished in blue with hard rubber grips. It has clearly seen hard frontier use, with a heavily worn exterior, scattered pitting (most notably on the left side of the frame, backstrap, and cylinder), and no remaining bore. The grips remain period-correct, though the left panel shows a small chip. Despite its condition, the revolver still indexes and locks up correctly, maintaining functional integrity.
Adding to its appeal, the revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter authenticating its Arizona shipment. Territorial-shipped Colts are highly prized among collectors, and this piece represents a genuine artifact of the American Southwest during the last years of the frontier.
